Honolulu Prosecutors Share Expertise with Anti-Human Trafficking Delegation from Thailand

Prosecuting Attorney Keith M. Kaneshiro recently hosted a group of prosecutors from Thailand to discuss human trafficking.

The 10-person delegation from Thailand included the director general of the Anti-Human Trafficking Department, senior prosecutors from the Thailand Attorney General’s Office and representatives from the United States Embassy in Bangkok.

Kaneshiro presented his strategy for dealing with sex trafficking in Honolulu, which targets those who profit from sexual exploitation and seeks to dismantle their organizations.

He also noted the department’s strong support of victims and spoke of the Honolulu Family Justice Center, which will play a critical role in the prosecution of sex traffickers. The center will provide victims of trafficking, sex assault and domestic violence with services, education, job training and placement and secure long-term transitional housing that will help them build new independent lives.

Dennis Dunn, Program Director of the department’s Victim/Witness Kokua Services, and Lynn Costales, Team Captain of the Sex Assault Unit, also spoke to the Thai prosecutors.
