Honolulu Prosecuting Attorney Steven Alm discusses the Department’s finding in the officer involved shooting of Ricky Kaleopaa, who was subsequently injured by gunfire, when he disobeyed HPD’s commands and rushed at the officers with a knife. The Department of the Prosecuting Attorney will not be bringing about criminal charges against the officers in this case and commends them for their restraint and professionalism, in which Ricky Kaleopaa made the unfortunate decision that led for the officers to exercise deadly force to protect themselves and others.
