On March 13, 2025, the Department of the Prosecuting Attorney and the Honolulu Police Department held a joint press conference to warn the public, and parents in particular, about predators using social media to lure victims between the ages of 11 and 17 through social media platforms, such as Instagram, and then sexually assault them.  HPD reported that they received 12 reports of sexual assaults in the past four months.
