On November 21, 2025, Prosecuting Attorney Steve Alm and Interim Police Chief Rade Vanic held a joint press conference to announce the launch of Safe & Sound Westside. In November of 2024, the Department of the Prosecuting Attorney and the Honolulu Police Department started the work to implement Safe & Sound Westside, focusing on the entire Leeward Coast, from Nānākuli to Mākaha.
This Safe & Sound strategy involves combining law enforcement efforts (“Safe”), based on community input, with resources and programming, also based on community input, to improve the wellness of the community of the Westside of Oʻahu.
