The Department of the Prosecuting Attorney has successfully advocated for tougher laws to combat cybercrime and convinced the Legislature to update Hawai‘i’s computer crime laws to accomplish three goals:

1. To respond to the current strategies used by cybercriminals.
2. To simplify the laws to make it easier to prosecute cybercriminals.
3. To double the potential prison terms that cybercriminals will face for targeting Hawai‘i residents.
