Response to Cybercrime
First, the Prosecuting Attorney has successfully advocated for tougher laws to combat cybercrime. In 2012, the Prosecuting Attorney convinced the Legislature to update Hawaii’s computer crime laws to accomplish three goals:
- To respond to the current strategies used by cybercriminals.
- To simplify the laws to make it easier to prosecute cybercriminals.
- To double the potential prison terms that cybercriminals will face for targeting Hawaii residents.
