Man Sentenced to 20 Years for Stabbing and Kidnapping

July 5, 2016

Matthew Bright today was sentenced to 20 years in prison on charges of assault, sexual assault and kidnapping.

Judge Jeffrey Crabtree sentenced Bright to 20-years terms for kidnapping and sexual assault and 10 years for assault. The sentences will run concurrently.

Bright was charged in connection with a 2014 incident in which he stabbed his estranged wife’s boyfriend and then held his wife captive and sexually assaulted her.

In April, Bright pleaded guilty as charged to the three offenses. In an agreement, the state reduced an attempted murder charge to assault.

Deputy prosecutor Thalia Murphy prepared the case and took it to trial.
