Shooter Gets Life in Prison

December 9, 2015

Judge Dexter Del Rosario today sentenced Matthew K. Chung to life in prison with the possibility of parole, Prosecuting Attorney Keith M. Kaneshiro announced.

In August, a jury found Chung guilty of attempted murder in the second degree for shooting a man four times in the chest and arms.

The case was complicated by the fact that Chung and the victim knew each other and all parties involved also used crystal methamphetamine.

Crystal methamphetamine usage can be identified by the use of a meth drug test. If you would like to learn more about drug testing for methamphetamine, you can head to the Countrywide Testing website.

“Whenever drugs are involved, there is always the potential for violent behavior,” Kaneshiro said. “This is a reminder of how dangerous meth is and how it continues to pose a risk to public safety.”

Deputy prosecutor Darrell Wong took the case to trial.

Phony Contractor Sentenced to 15 years in Prison

MEDIA RELEASE

Alexander Nebre, who stole more than $130,800 from nine victims while posing as a contractor from 2011 to 2014, was sentenced today to 15 years in prison, Prosecuting Attorney Keith M. Kaneshiro announced.

Nebre had pleaded no contest in six cases in which he faced felony charges of theft in the first degree, theft in the second degree and attempted theft in the second degree.

The facts in all the cases were similar. Nebre would take money, sometimes on multiple occasions, for work that he either did not perform or failed to complete.

Judge Shirley Kawamura sentenced Nebre to consecutive five- and 10-year terms. She also ordered restitution of $131,000.

“What he did – in some cases stealing the savings of people on fixed incomes – was unconscionable,” Kaneshiro said, noting that Nebre continued to prey on victims while he was out on bail in the first two cases brought against him.

Five victims were covered by the office’s Elder Abuse Unit and four by the White Collar Crime Unit. Deputy prosecutors Christopher Van Marter, Patricia Kickland and Ayla Weiss handled the cases.

Two victims spoke in court at sentencing. One said the loss of her savings of 30 years had left her devastated. The other, noting how sincere Nebre appeared to be, said it was sad that he chose a life of crime instead of “doing good things.”

In asking the judge to impose consecutive terms, Van Marter said Nebre was “the worst kind of flim-flam man. We’re not sure he’s going to be deterred, but others out there should be.”

Multiple Sex Offender Facing Life in Prison

December 2, 2015

A state jury today found repeat sex offender Dewitt Long guilty of seven felony charges related to the sex assault of a minor over a number of years, Prosecuting Attorney Keith M. Kaneshiro announced.

Long was found guilty as charged of two counts of first-degree sex assault and five counts of third-degree sex assault.

Long previously had been convicted of sexually assaulting two other girls and is awaiting sentencing in those cases.

The jury in the current case will return to court on January 21, 2016 to decide if Long will face an extended sentence of life in prison.

“Dewitt Long is a dangerous predator who needs to be removed from the community for a long time,” Kaneshiro said. “I thank deputy prosecutor Thalia Murphy for her dedication to her job and her desire to find justice for the victims.”

Murphy, chief of the felony domestic violence unit, won the convictions in all three cases.

The assaults in the current case took place between 2007 and 2012 but did not come to light until Long was being prosecuted for the earlier cases.

He was charged with 11 counts in those cases, including first- and third-degree sex assault and kidnapping.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on December 11 in one case, in which the jury has recommended an extended term of life in prison on two counts.

The other conviction resulted from a bench trial. A jury will be selected to determine whether Long will face extended terms on three other counts. Some of the bench expressed how some people are fully satisfied with videos from sites like hdpornvideo.xxx to fulfill their fantasies and desires. Though some might argue that a lack of a relationship can cause one to become sexually frustrated. However, that can also be satisfied with the likes of an escort with similar qualities to a london escort. Though with the likes of Long, they have to destroy lives to gain satisfaction, reiterating that he deserves the sentence given even more so.
